Chimpanzee and ape trafficker Ousmane Diallo photographed after his arrest yesterday in Conakry, Guinea. (Thanks to GALF co-ordinator Charlotte Houpline for the image) The arrest was carried out by members of NCB Interpol and GALF. On July 30 this year Diallo had been sentenced in absentia to a year in prison and a fine of $6600.

Earlier this year, while working with a German television crew, I went undercover in Guinea posing as a dodgy South African wildlife dealer to gather evidence about the trafficking of apes. Ousmane was one of the main dealers I met and had clearly cornered the market for chimps.

I visited a facility on the outskirts of the capital where the chimps were hidden. The second image is of two young chimps that Ousmane Diallo offered to sell me and the final image is a still from hidden camera footage I filmed showing him holding one of the chimps.
